Does the monitoring script slow down my website?
No, the monitoring script does not hold up your page. It loads asynchronously, so the browser keeps building and showing your page while the script downloads in the background.
Why it does not block your page
The snippet you copy from the Website monitoring tab does one small thing: it adds a script element that loads one bundle, https://monitor.tapper.ai/bundle.js, with script.async = true. An async script downloads in parallel with the rest of your page and runs when it arrives, so your content does not wait for it.
If you install it through Google Tag Manager, it loads with the rest of your GTM container.
The snippet also has a noscript part with a small image from protect.tapper.ai. Browsers load that image only when JavaScript is turned off, so regular visitors never fetch it.
Where to see how the script loads
Two dashboard cards show how the script is doing on real visits:
| Card | Dashboard tab | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Script Initialization Time (daily) | Traffic & Geo, under Engagement | How long the script takes to initialize, day by day. Lower is better. |
| Clicks & Failed Script Load % | Overview, under Script load | Ad clickers per day next to failed script loads, with the callout "Failed load rate {x}% of Google Ads clicks". |
If the failed-load rate jumps after a change to your site, check that nothing is now blocking the script. A Content Security Policy that does not allow Tapper's hosts stops it completely: see Allow Tapper in your Content Security Policy.
