Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)

On this page

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone to every sign-in, after your password, Google or SSO. Any app with time-based codes works, such as Google Authenticator, Authy or 1Password. Tapper does not send codes by text message or email.

2FA belongs to your login, so it covers you in every workspace. Other members turn it on for themselves.

Turn on 2FA

  1. Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar (your photo and name) and click Profile. You can also open Settings and choose Profile, or go to https://app.tapper.ai/settings/personal.
  2. On the Login tab, Two-factor authentication shows Off. Click Set up 2FA. The Set up two-factor authentication dialog opens.
  3. In your authenticator app, add an account and scan the QR code, or click Copy next to the secret key and paste it into the app.
  4. Type the code the app shows in 6-digit code from your authenticator app. It changes every 30 seconds; if it changes while you type, use the new one.
  5. If your account has a password, type it in Current password.
  6. Click Turn on. The row shows On.

If a Verify it's you dialog appears, type the 6-digit code Tapper emailed you in Code from the email, click Verify, then enter a fresh authenticator code and click Turn on.

Signing in with 2FA

After you sign in, Enter your authentication code opens. Type the current code in Authentication code and click Continue. Tapper does not remember devices, so you do this every time.

Turn off 2FA

  1. In Settings, Profile, Login, click Turn off 2FA.
  2. In the Turn off two-factor authentication dialog, type the current code from your authenticator app and click Turn off. Your password alone then signs you in.

If your organization requires 2FA, Turn off 2FA is not offered. Turning it off needs a working code, so before you change or reset your phone, move your authenticator accounts across, or turn 2FA off and set it up again on the new phone.
