Reading early results before outcomes mature
A Vantage result takes time. Here is what you can trust early, and what you can't.
Why it takes time
- The first two weeks of the test are learning. They are left out while Google's bidding adjusts.
- The read is on day 90 of the pilot.
- Orders get refunded after the fact, and leads take days or weeks to qualify. With Salesforce, Median days to qualified on Vantage > Results shows how long yours take.
What to check early
| Check | Where | Healthy |
|---|---|---|
| Values reach Google | Signals sent | Accepted every day, failures looked into |
| Setup is complete | Accounts and campaigns | Every step reads Done |
| Data keeps flowing | Data checks on Results | Blocking checks read Met |
| The halves stay fair | Your Google Ads experiment | Both halves spend to plan |
How to read an early result
- Too early to call: the test has fewer readable days than it needs.
- Directional: there is a difference and a range, but the range still includes no change. Don't act on it.
- Measured: the range clears zero at the planned end. That is a result.
For leads, the early read is qualified leads per week in each half. Sales cycles of 60 to 75 days are common, so a lead from today may not buy for two months: judge the pilot on a step that shows within one to two weeks, and let later stages fill in.
Don't judge on
- Google's conversion value. It is what Google counts, not what you kept. It is context only.
- Conversion counts alone. Vantage points Google at value, so the count and the value can move apart.
- Brand and non-brand together. Read each on its own.
