Invalid traffic types
Each type of invalid traffic leaves a block reason on the click. Most are controlled by a rule set setting (Setup > Rule sets). For fuller definitions, see Invalid traffic types definitions.
| Type | What it means | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Ad click limit exceeded | One IP clicked your ads more often than a limit allows | Ad click limits, on the Click limits tab |
| Aborted ad click | Google Ads clicks registered from one IP, but your page mostly never loaded | No switch |
| Suspicious ad click | The script loaded but recorded no interaction. A new rule set flags an IP after 3 such clicks | Suspicious ad clicks |
| Instant bounce | Very short visits. A new rule set uses 2 seconds | Minimum seconds on site |
| Bot | Automated or non-human traffic | No switch |
| Tampered device | The device's fingerprint contradicts itself | No switch |
| Known threat, Data center, Suspicious network | Blocklisted IPs, hosting providers and networks tied to invalid traffic | No switch |
| VPN, Proxy | Traffic routed through a VPN or proxy | Block VPN traffic |
| Location mismatch | The IP is in a country your country rule excludes | Block by country, on the Countries tab |
| Suspicious click behavior | On-page movement, scrolling and click timing that match bots | Block suspicious click behavior |
| Repeat suspicious clicks | The same visitor keeps returning through paid ads and never converts | No switch |
| Blocked on another platform | The visitor was flagged on another ad platform | Block across ad platforms (Google Ads, Meta Ads, Microsoft Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Snapchat Ads and Apple Ads; TikTok Ads records the click) |
A visitor can carry more than one type. See Block reasons explained: what each label means and How Tapper decides a click is invalid.
