Connect Google Analytics and read the Google Analytics tab
On this page
Connect a Google Analytics 4 property to a protected entity to add a Google Analytics tab to your dashboard and fill the Google Analytics proof block in the exclusion details. The tab sets your Google Ads cost beside the key events, purchases, engagement and revenue Analytics reports. The proof block shows whether Analytics recorded a session with no engagement for an excluded visitor's click. Tapper only reads your Analytics data.
Before you start
- You need the Owner or Admin role. Managers and Viewers cannot connect it.
- You need a GA4 property, a Google account that can read it, and the property's numeric ID (6 to 12 digits, in the property's Admin area in Google Analytics).
- You connect it from Setup > Data sources once the entity exists, not during onboarding. Connect your data: Setup > Data sources lists every source there.
Connect a property
- With more than one protected entity, pick the entity in the switcher at the top of the sidebar.
- In the sidebar, under Setup, click Data sources. Google Analytics is in the Analytics group.
- Click Continue with Google and sign in with the Google account that has access to the property.
- GA4 properties reads No GA4 properties. Click Add property.
- Enter the GA4 property ID and a Label. The label is what the dashboard's GA property selector shows.
- For more properties, click Add property again. One entity holds up to 25.
- Click Save properties.
- Under BigQuery export, enter the GCP Project ID of the Google Cloud project holding the property's BigQuery export, then click Save in that section. The dashboard tab works without it; the proof block needs it.

The connection has three sections: Google account, GA4 properties (one row per property, with its ID and label) and BigQuery export. Removing a property deletes its synced metrics; other properties keep their history.
What happens next
- Google Analytics appears as a dashboard tab while at least one entity in the workspace has it connected.
- The tab syncs once a day. Its freshness line reads, for example, "Latest data through {date} · dates in the GA property's timezone".
- With the Google account connected but no property saved, the tab shows No GA4 properties and Add GA4 properties, which opens the Google Analytics row of Setup > Data sources.
Read the Google Analytics tab
The tab reports one entity and one GA4 property at a time and never sums across properties. A Protected entity filter appears when more than one entity has Google Analytics connected, and a GA property filter when the entity has more than one property (not while demo data is on). There is no platform toggle. The other filter is Marketing platform; while it is set, cards that cannot be split by platform say "Clear the platform filter to see this."
The tiles: Sessions, Active Users ("Sum of daily actives · a return visit counts twice"), Engagement Rate, Key Events ("All channels", paid and unpaid together), Ad Cost, Cost / Purchase ("Google Ads-attributed purchases") and Cost / Key Event ("Google Ads-attributed key events").
Four sections follow: Google Ads performance, Engagement, Traffic & acquisition and Key events & revenue. Cards that set cost against Analytics outcomes read "Requires a Google Ads link in GA4." until your Google Ads account is linked to the GA4 property in Google Analytics and the next daily sync has run.
With demo data on, the tab shows example data under the Demo data banner. See Demo data: look around before your own data arrives.
The Google Analytics proof block
On the Exclusions page, a Google Ads row's exclusion details include a Google Analytics proof block over the last 30 days, for visitors whose click carries a click ID. It lists Engagement, Scrolls, Clicks, Country and Hostname for the Analytics session matching the click ID. Its states, and the rest of the details, are in The Exclusions page and the exclusion details.
If something goes wrong
- Reconnect Google Analytics on the dashboard tab: Google Analytics rejected the stored connection (access revoked or expired). Sign in again from that card, or with Continue with Google on the Google Analytics row of Setup > Data sources.
- No Google Analytics row in the sidebar: no entity has Google Analytics connected yet, or the workspace chose Lift only, whose dashboard has no Google Analytics tab.
- The property ID is refused: use the 6 to 12 digit numeric property ID, not the measurement ID that starts with
G-.
