Choose which campaigns Tapper protects

On this page

Every Google Ads campaign Tapper Block can protect starts with protection on. To leave one alone, for example a brand campaign you manage yourself, switch it off on the Campaigns tab. We recommend protecting every campaign.

Before you start

  • Your workspace has Block, with a Google Ads account connected to the entity.
  • You are an Owner or Admin of the workspace.

Switch a campaign's protection off or on

  1. Pick the entity in the sidebar switcher if you have more than one.
  2. Under Setup, click Ad accounts, then Google Ads.
  3. Click the Campaigns tab, or Manage campaigns on an account row to see that account's campaigns. The Ad groups view has no switch.
  4. Find the campaign with the search box or the account filter. The table has the columns Account, Campaign and Protection.
  5. Click the campaign's Protection switch. Search, Display, Shopping, Demand Gen and Performance Max campaigns have one.

Each click takes effect at once; there is no save button and no bulk action on Google Ads.

Manage campaigns with one campaign switched off

What happens next

  • Switched off: Tapper removes its audience exclusion and value rule from the campaign (from the ad groups, for Demand Gen) and sends it no new exclusions. Its clicks are still recorded and shown on your dashboard. IP exclusions already added stay in place.
  • Switched back on: Tapper applies the audience exclusion again (and the value rule, on Search, Display and Shopping), and new IP exclusions follow as invalid clicks are flagged.
  • New campaigns start protected and get Tapper's IP and audience exclusions. Tapper keeps the campaign list current; click Refresh to pick up a new campaign at once.
  • Export (Campaigns view only) downloads a CSV with Ad Account, Ad Account ID, Campaign, Campaign ID, Campaign Type and Protection ("Protected" or "Not protected").

Video, Hotel and other types Tapper does not write to have no switch. See Which exclusions Tapper applies to each Google Ads campaign type. A shadow campaign appears under its original row with its own switch; see Value rules and shadow campaigns: optional extras for Performance Max, Search and Shopping.

To stop protecting every campaign in an account, disconnect it. See Disconnect an ad account.

If something goes wrong

  • The switch fails with a sentence about your Google Ads account, such as "Google Ads signed Tapper out of" the account: click Reconnect on its row on the Ad accounts tab, then try again. See Reconnect an ad account that stopped working.
  • "Someone is saving this right now. Try again in a few seconds." Another change to the entity is in progress. Wait and click again.
  • A campaign is missing: click Refresh. If it still does not appear, check that its account is connected to this entity.
