Reconnect an ad account that stopped working
On this page
When Tapper can no longer use a connected ad account, its row shows Needs reconnecting, Not active or Needs attention, with a notice naming the cause, for example "Google Ads signed Tapper out of this account". Reconnecting is a fresh sign-in. It works the same on Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Microsoft Ads and LinkedIn Ads, and on Lift-only workspaces.
Why it happens
- The platform signed Tapper out.
- The login you connected with lost access, for example it was removed in Google Ads or Meta Business settings.
- The account has a problem: Google Ads reports it not active (Not active), or Meta can't reach it (Needs attention).
Tapper stops reading the account until you reconnect. There is no email and no dashboard banner, so the row is where you see it. Every chip and sentence: Ad account status.
Before you start
- You need to be a workspace Owner or Admin.
- Not active: reactivate the account in Google Ads first.
- Needs attention: fix what Meta shows in Meta Business settings first.
Reconnect one account
- With several protected entities, pick the entity in the switcher under the workspace name. Under Setup, select Ad accounts.
- Open Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Microsoft Ads or LinkedIn Ads.
- On the Ad accounts tab, click Reconnect on the row in error. Only accounts in error show it.
- Sign in with a login that has access (table below). You return to the same tab and the chip reads Connected.
Reconnect several at once
- Every account in error starts with its checkbox ticked. Untick any that needs a different login, for a second round.
- Click Reconnect 2 selected (your count) above the table.
- Sign in once, with a login that reaches every selected account. Accounts it cannot reach stay in error.
Which sign-in to use
| Platform | Sign in with |
|---|---|
| Google Ads | A Google login with access to the account, directly or through a manager account. For "The connected Google sign-in lost access", see Google Ads says your sign-in has no access to the account. |
| Meta Ads | A Facebook profile with Advertiser or Admin access, allowing ads management when Meta asks. If Meta does not ask, first remove Tapper under Business integrations in your Facebook settings. |
| TikTok Ads | A TikTok for Business login that can open the ad account. |
| Microsoft Ads | A Microsoft login that can open the ad account. |
| LinkedIn Ads | A LinkedIn profile with a role on the ad account. |
While still on the account list during connecting, use the result screen's own button: Reconnect Google Ads (or your platform).

If it still happens
- Still in error after signing in: that login cannot reach the account. Use one that can, or get yours added on the platform. For Meta, see Meta Ads account could not be connected.
- Not active comes back: reactivate the account in Google Ads, then reconnect.
- Needs attention comes back: check the account in Meta Business settings, then reconnect.
- Back on the tab, no message, nothing changed: click Reconnect again. If it fails twice, write to support@tapper.ai with the entity name and the account ID.
