How Block protects TikTok ads

On this page

Tapper Block monitors your TikTok ads. It records and reports every invalid visit from them, and sends an event through your TikTok Pixel. It does not change your TikTok ad groups.

How it works

  1. Someone clicks one of your TikTok ads and lands on your website.
  2. The monitoring script checks the visit against your entity's detection rules.
  3. If the visit is invalid, Tapper records it and sends the event TAPPER_INVALID_TRAFFIC through your TikTok Pixel.
  4. You turn that event into an audience in TikTok Ads Manager, so you can see the invalid visitors in one place. See Set up the TikTok invalid traffic audience.

Each ad group on the Ad groups tab carries the tag Monitored. See Protect TikTok ad groups: Protect all or one at a time.

What your account needs

  • A workspace with Block.
  • A TikTok Pixel. Without one, the account does not connect.
  • The monitoring script on your landing pages.
  • The ad_id parameter on your ads (below).

Signing in is covered in Connect TikTok Ads.

Add the ad_id parameter to your TikTok ads

TikTok does not put the ad's ID in your destination URL, and Tapper needs it to tie each click to its ad. TikTok has no URL parameter builder, so add it to the URL:

  1. In TikTok Ads Manager, open the Ad tab, hover over the ad and click Edit.
  2. Scroll to the ad's URL field.
  3. Add ?ad_id=__CID__ to the end of the URL, or &ad_id=__CID__ if the URL already has parameters. Type the macro exactly: uppercase CID between double underscores. TikTok replaces it with the ad's ID each time the ad is served.
  4. Publish the changes.

For example: https://www.example.com/landing?ad_id=__CID__. The text is the same for every ad, so you can use TikTok's bulk editing and add it to new ads too. Tapper's public guide has the same steps: TikTok Ads: URL Parameters.

How Tapper stays in sync with TikTok

  • The connection. Tapper keeps the sign-in fresh. If TikTok signs Tapper out anyway, the account row shows Needs reconnecting, "TikTok signed Tapper out of this account" and "Reconnect TikTok so Block can protect it again." Click Reconnect. Check the row if TikTok numbers stop moving.
  • Campaigns and ad groups. Tapper reads them when you connect and keeps them current. Refresh ad groups reads them again now.
  • Spend and metrics. The dashboard can trail TikTok Ads Manager by several hours. See When your data shows up after connecting.

What you see in Tapper

Under Setup, click Ad accounts, then TikTok Ads. Pick the entity in the sidebar switcher first if you have more than one. The Ad accounts tab has a row per account (status, ID, Manage ad groups). The Ad groups tab lists each ad group with its Monitored tag.

On the dashboard, pick TikTok on the platform toggle to see TikTok alone.
