Protected entities: what they are and how to add one

On this page

Each protected entity has its own ad accounts, rules and tracking, and can cover a website, mobile apps, or both. Your first was created with the workspace; this article covers the second onward.

What an entity is

Each one holds:

  • Its domains, under Protected domains in Setup > Website > Domains.
  • Its detection rule sets, including the default set.
  • Its monitoring script, with its own key, on Setup > Website > Monitoring.
  • Its connected ad accounts: Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Apple Ads, Snapchat Ads, LinkedIn Ads and Microsoft Ads.
  • Its mobile apps, connected through your tracking tool, such as Adjust or AppsFlyer.
  • Its products, switched on or off for this entity alone (Products for each entity).

Two brands or two websites get one each. Several ad accounts for one website share the same one.

You are always on one entity. With several, the switcher at the top of the sidebar shows it, with its initials in a small tile and its status dot; pick another there, or click Manage protected entities for the full list. With one, Setup is that entity's pages.

Products for each entity

Each entity has its own products, so one brand can run Block, Vantage and Lift while another runs Lift alone. The menu, the dashboard and the product pages follow the entity you are on. Open a page of a product that is off for this entity and Tapper takes you to its Products page with a line that says so.

On All protected entities, each product's pages read only the entities that have that product.

Owners and Admins switch products in two places:

  • Settings > General > Your products: each card says where the product stands, such as On for all 3 entities or On for DKNY, off for Cole Haan. Turn on and Turn off change every entity at once. Turn off asks you to confirm first. Per entity opens that entity's own page.
  • Setup > Products on an entity: one card per product, with Turn on or Turn off for this entity alone. A product that needs another says Needs Block.

A product your Tapper team set for you shows as set by them, with Contact support to change it.

The status chip

Shown on the Setup pages, as the dot on the entity's tile in the switcher and in the entity list:

  • Protected: an ad account is connected, nothing needs fixing and blocking is on.
  • Monitor-only: connected, nothing is blocked.
  • Needs attention: a connected ad account is in error, or a website has no domain.
  • Not connected: no ad account yet.
  • Lift active: a working entity on a Lift only workspace.

Add an entity

The Add protected entity dialog shows how many entities remain on your plan; with none left, you cannot add one. Only an Owner or Admin can connect an ad account to it.

  1. Under Setup in the sidebar, click Add protected entity (the last row), or pick it in the entity switcher.
  2. Type a Name.
  3. Tick the Products it should have. They start as your workspace has them now. A product that needs another says Needs Block. until you tick that one, and at least one stays on. Your first entity has no such step: it takes the products you chose in the wizard.
  4. Click Create.

What happens next

The entity starts as Not connected, with Connect an ad account or a mobile app so Block can protect it. The connect button opens the wizard at Connect an ad account, then Install website monitoring and Set your detection rules (where you add the domain under Protected domains), and Finish.

Or finish it from its own pages, account first, since click tracking and blocking start once an ad platform is connected:

  1. Connect an ad account: in Setup > Ad accounts, click Add ad account or a platform's connect button, such as Connect Google Ads. Both open Add an account. See Add another ad account to an entity.
  2. Add a domain: Setup > Website > Domains, Add domain under Protected domains.
  3. Install the monitoring script: Setup > Website > Monitoring. See The monitoring script.

On Lift only the line reads Connect an ad account to start Lift. There is no domain or script step, and once connected the chip reads Lift active.

A new entity has no click limits yet. On the Click limits tab of its default rule set, Suggest limits adds an industry's presets (Suggested thresholds by industry). The set starts in Monitor-only until an Owner, Admin or Manager on a paid plan switches blocking on: see Monitor-only.

The entity list

Manage protected entities opens the Protected entities list: a Search entities box and one row per entity.

ColumnWhat it shows
NameThe entity's name.
PlatformsOne chip per connected platform, Mobile app for a mobile app, or None connected.
StatusThe entity's status chip: Protected, Monitor-only, Needs attention or Not connected.
Row menuDelete protection script

If setup stopped partway, the banner Finish setting up this workspace resumes the wizard.

Rename or delete an entity

On the entity's Setup pages, open the ⋮ menu in the header: Edit name renames it, Delete protection deletes it. You can also delete from the list's row menu with Delete protection script. Both ask you to confirm.
