When your data shows up after connecting
On this page
How fast the pages fill depends on how many clicks your ads get, so Tapper does not promise a time for first data. This is how often each part refreshes.
The short version
| What | First arrives | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Campaigns, ad sets and ad groups | Synced when the account connects | Every 6 hours, or when you press Refresh |
| Clicks on the Clicks page | After the monitoring script fires on a landing page an ad sent a visitor to | Continuously |
| Spend, conversions and other ad platform metrics | Pulled every hour | Microsoft Ads needs about 3 hours before an hour's numbers are final; TikTok spend syncs about every 5 hours |
| Dashboard numbers | Refresh every 4 hours | Every 4 hours |
| Lift recommendations, Google Ads, Lift only workspace | First check about 45 minutes after connecting | Daily |
| Lift recommendations, Google Ads, workspace with Block | The next daily check | Daily |
| Lift recommendations, Meta Ads | The first daily check after Tapper has read the account's history, usually the day after you connect | Daily |
| Lift recommendations, TikTok Ads, Microsoft Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Snapchat Ads and Apple Ads | The daily check after Lift's first read of the account | Daily |
| Mobile app events through your tracking tool | Within minutes | Continuously |
Campaigns
Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and Microsoft Ads sync at connect and every 6 hours. To pull in a new campaign now, open the platform's page in Setup > Ad accounts:
- Google Ads and Microsoft Ads: Campaigns tab, Refresh.
- Meta Ads: Ad sets tab, Refresh ad sets.
- TikTok Ads: Ad groups tab, Refresh ad groups.
New Google Ads campaigns are queued for Tapper's exclusions once blocking is on. Meta ad sets need Protection switched on, or Protect all (Protect Meta ad sets). New TikTok ad groups appear tagged Monitored.
Clicks
With Block, a click is recorded when a visitor from an ad lands on a page with your monitoring script and the script loads. So:
- The script must be on your ad landing pages. Find it on Setup > Website > Monitoring: The monitoring script.
- Tapper must tie the click to your ad. On Google Ads, Tapper sets the account-level tracking template on connect. On Meta Ads, add the
ad_idparameter: Add the ad_id parameter to your Meta ads.
The Protected chip checks the setup, not the traffic. To see clicks arriving, open Clicks and pick the platform. On the dashboard, Clicks & failed script load % under Overview shows whether the script loaded on the clicks Google sent. Still empty after your ads had clicks? See Check that the monitoring script is working on your site.
A Lift only workspace has no monitoring script and no Clicks page.
Dashboard numbers
Tapper pulls spend, conversions and other metrics every hour, and the dashboard refreshes every 4 hours, so a tile can lag a few hours (Microsoft Ads and TikTok Ads a little more). See How the dashboard metrics are calculated.
Lift
Lift starts once Tapper has set your workspace up. On Lift only, Tapper reads a new Google Ads account's recent metrics and runs the first check 45 minutes after connecting, so recommendations appear within a few hours. With Block, the next daily check picks up the account. Each daily check runs once the day's data is in.
Until then, Recommendations shows No open recommendations with Nothing needs your attention right now., or No TikTok recommendations when the entity's only Lift account is on TikTok Ads. Still there a day after connecting? See No Lift recommendations yet.
Two things that look like missing data
Nothing is blocked
Every page shows Monitor-only with Tapper records invalid clicks on this workspace but doesn't block them., and the dashboard reads Total Invalid for Total Blocked, IP-Flagged Visitors for IP-Blocked Visitors and Wasted Spend for Reallocated Spend. See Monitor-only.
Numbers that never change
A Demo data banner means example figures, not yours. Press Turn off demo data. See Demo data.
