Set up the label feed in Google Merchant Center and Meta

On this page

The label feed gives every product a label that says which Lift group it is in, for example "tapper best seller" or "tapper no sales". Your campaigns follow the labels, and products move between groups by themselves every day. You add one link, once. Tapper changes nothing in Google Ads, Merchant Center or Meta.

What you need

  • An Owner, Admin or Manager login to the Tapper workspace.
  • Access to the Google Merchant Center that feeds your Shopping and Performance Max campaigns.
  • For Meta: access to the catalogue in Meta Commerce Manager that your catalogue ads use.
  • One free custom label, from custom_label_0 to custom_label_4. Tapper shows you which ones are free.

Step 1: create the feed in Tapper

  1. Open Lift > Business details > Products > Label feed.
  2. Under Custom label slots, find a slot marked Free. Tapper writes only into a free slot, never over your own labels.
  3. Under New label feed, pick your Merchant Center and the free Custom label, then press Create label feed.
  4. Tapper shows the Merchant Center address and the Meta address. Copy both now: they are shown only once. If you lose them, press New address and use the new one.

Step 2: add it to Google Merchant Center

  1. In Merchant Center, open Settings > Data sources.
  2. Add a supplemental source, and choose to add product data from a link.
  3. Paste the Merchant Center address from step 1.
  4. Set it to fetch every day.
  5. Apply it to your main product source, and save.

Merchant Center reads it within a day. In Tapper, the feed then shows Read by Merchant Center, with the time of the last read.

Step 3: add it to Meta Commerce Manager

  1. In Commerce Manager, open your catalogue, then Data sources.
  2. Add a supplementary feed to the catalogue's main data source.
  3. Choose a scheduled feed, paste the Meta address from step 1, and set it to fetch every day.
  4. Make one product set per label. Tapper lists the rule for each one, for example "custom_label_4 is tapper best seller".

Step 4: use the labels in your campaigns

Google Performance Max

  1. Make a best sellers asset group whose listing group takes tapper best seller and tapper hidden gem.
  2. Leave those two labels out of your main asset group, so the two never compete.
  3. Leave tapper no sales out everywhere.

Meta catalogue ads

  1. Run your best sellers product set on its own.
  2. Leave the tapper no sales product set out of your catalogue ads.

The labels

  • tapper best seller: run it on its own.
  • tapper hidden gem: add it to your best sellers.
  • tapper no sales: leave it out.
  • tapper under target: keep it and watch it.
  • tapper priority: products you push on your merchandising list.
  • tapper new arrival, tapper nobody sees and tapper rest: no change.

Products you put on hold on your merchandising list carry no label. The full list of groups and their rules is in The Products page: your products, grouped.

If something looks wrong

  • Waiting for Merchant Center after a day: check the source is applied to your main product source and set to fetch every day.
  • Stopped: your own labels are now in the feed's slot. Create a new feed on a free slot.
  • A Meta product set is empty: the feed labels only products already in your catalogue. Contact support from this page and we match your catalogue's product ids.
