Roles: what Owners, Admins and Editors can do
Every person in a Tapper workspace has one of three roles: Owner, Admin or Editor. In short, the owner and admins can change anything, Editor members can look but not change, and one action, deleting the workspace, belongs to the owner alone. There are no other roles: no Member or Viewer role to pick.
How it works
- Roles are per workspace. The same person can own one workspace and be an Editor in another. In your list of workspaces in Settings, General, the tag Member only means you are not the owner of that one.
- Exactly one owner. The owner is the person who created the workspace, unless Tapper support has transferred it since. The role cannot be given away or taken from the Members list; Tapper support transfers ownership on request at support@tapper.ai.
- Admins and Editors are chosen at invitation. The owner or an admin picks Admin or Editor (the default) when inviting someone, and can change it later from the person's row: see Invite members and set their roles.
- Single sign-on can add people too. When the workspace lets people join through your company login, they arrive with the role set in Role for new members, Editor by default. Nobody becomes an owner that way.
- The plan follows the owner. A workspace runs on its owner's plan, so its seats, limits and the pages the plan includes come from the owner's subscription. Settings, Billing always shows the subscription of the person signed in, so only the owner sees there the plan the workspace runs on.
- Your own settings are yours. Your profile, password, two-factor authentication and theme sit in Settings, Personal and every role manages its own.
What each role can do
| What | Owner | Admin | Editor |
|---|---|---|---|
| See the dashboard, entities and the workspace's data | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Open Reports and Refunds (when the plan includes them) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Connect, reconnect or disconnect ad accounts | Yes | Yes | No |
| Create entities, change detection rules, blocking and the cookie policy | Yes | Yes | No |
| Change the workspace's products (Lift only or Block + Lift) | Yes | Yes | No |
| Use Lift | Yes | Yes | No |
| Open Sources and Experiments | Yes | Yes | No |
| Invite members, change roles, remove members | Yes | Yes | No |
| Rename the workspace, change its logo or time zone | Yes | Yes | No |
| Set up single sign-on | Yes | Yes | No |
| Create and delete API keys | Yes | Yes | No |
| Delete the workspace | Yes | No | No |
| Transfer ownership | Through Tapper support | No | No |
The rule behind the table: everything that changes something is open to the owner and admins, nearly everything that only shows something is open to all three roles, and deleting the workspace is the single owner-only action. Lift, Sources and Experiments are the exceptions on the read side: only owners and admins can open them. The same goes for the single sign-on and API key settings.
On a workspace set to Lift only, Sources, Experiments and Refunds are not there for anyone, whatever the role: see Lift only: what your workspace includes and leaves out.
What you see in Tapper
An Editor member sees the same app with the controls that change things held back. Where Tapper explains, it says so:
| Where | What an Editor member sees |
|---|---|
| Settings, General, Products | Only workspace owners and admins can change products. |
| Connecting an ad account | Only a workspace owner or admin can connect an account. Ask one of them to connect it for you. |
| Settings, Members | The list of members, without the invite form or the row menus |
| Sources | Source data is unavailable right now. The rest of the product is unaffected. |
If you need to change something and your role is Editor, ask the owner or an admin of the workspace to change your role or to make the change for you. See Only a workspace owner or admin can connect an account for the most common case.
