Connect BigQuery
On this page
The BigQuery row ("Read one BigQuery dataset of yours: orders, refunds, subscriptions, leads or a GA4 export.") connects one dataset, read-only. You then choose which tables Tapper reads and what each holds.
Before you start
- You need the Owner or Admin role.
- You need someone who can share the dataset in your Google Cloud project.
- Have the Project ID (not the project name) and the Dataset ID as the BigQuery console shows them.
Tapper makes a Google service account for each connection and holds no key for it. You give it BigQuery Data Viewer on the one dataset, nowhere else.
Connect a dataset
- With several protected entities, pick the entity in the switcher at the top of the sidebar.
- Under Setup, click Data sources. BigQuery is in the Analytics group.
- Click Set up on the row.
- Enter the Project ID and Dataset ID, then click Connect.

Grant access and test
- Click Manage on the row, then the Settings tab.
- Under Service account, click Copy. If the address is not there yet, wait a moment.
- In the BigQuery console, open the dataset, choose Share > Add principal, paste the address, give it BigQuery Data Viewer and save.
- In Tapper, click Test. A new account can take a minute before Google accepts it. If it fails, fix what the answer names and click Test again.
The answer lists the Tables Tapper can see, with location, partitioning and clustering. Tapper reads their structure, not their rows.
Once connected
- The row reads Connected, with dataset, project, location and last test time. Until a test passes it reads Not connected, with Waiting for access.
- Overview shows the Last test. Settings shows the Project ID, Dataset ID, Location (with Change), the service account, and Tables Tapper reads, where Map a table says what a table holds.
- Add another connects a second dataset.
- Disconnect deletes the service account, so it can no longer read. Remove its grant on the dataset too.
If something goes wrong
- The test fails right after connecting: check the grant, wait a minute, then click Test again.
- The dataset is somewhere else: click Change next to Location and enter it, for example
EUoreurope-west1. - The row shows Reconnect: Tapper could not make the service account. Click Reconnect.
