What Tapper creates in your Google Ads account

On this page

When you connect a Google Ads account to a workspace with Block, Tapper creates these objects in the background while the account links. Each name starts with "Tapper - ".

Tapper also syncs the campaign list and checks the account's location targeting matches your detection rules.

The lists and audiences

Tapper excludes the two lists on Search, Display, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns (chip Audience Exclusion), and its audiences on Demand Gen ad groups (chip Audience Segment Exclusion in the Ad groups view). In monitor-only, where every new rule set starts and the only mode in a free trial, Tapper skips audience exclusions.

The lists appear on the Invalid traffic audience tab of the Google Ads page in Setup > Ad accounts, with the columns Audience and Keep each visitor for (1 to 540 days) and each list's Google Ads resource name. A row without a resource name has Create audience.

On Campaigns, chips show what is applied: Audience Exclusion, Value Rule Exclusion and Tapper goal ("Tapper goal:" and its name when there is more than one goal). The Protection switch, on Search, Display, Shopping, Demand Gen and Performance Max campaigns, removes or reapplies Tapper's audience exclusions and value rules.

The campaign sync runs at connect, then every 6 hours, or on Refresh. A new campaign it finds gets Tapper's IP exclusions and audience exclusion.

The tracking template

Tapper sets the account-level template itself; you paste nothing at connection. You copy it from the Tracking template tab only when a campaign, ad group or ad has its own template that overrides it. The dashboard then shows "Some ads skip Tapper's tracking" with Fix tracking.

See The Google Ads tracking template: what Tapper sets and why.

Tapper goals

A Tapper goal is created only when you click New Tapper goal on the Tapper goals tab. Each goal creates a conversion action and a custom goal in Google Ads. Deleting the goal in Tapper leaves its conversion action in place. See Tapper goals: let Google bid on predicted conversion value.

Other things Tapper writes per campaign

  • IP exclusions on Search, Display, Shopping and Demand Gen campaigns, per flagged click once blocking is on. Google allows at most 500 per campaign (the 500 limit).
  • Account-level placement exclusions on Display and Performance Max (Placement exclusions).
  • Optional conversion value rules and shadow campaigns (Value rules and shadow campaigns).

When you disconnect

Tapper puts back your earlier tracking template, or clears it. The Tapper-named objects and your campaigns' exclusions stay. See Disconnect an ad account.

Lift only workspaces

Connecting creates none of the above. Lift changes your account only through its fixes (Fix, mark as done, dismiss and revert). The Tapper goals tab appears once Tapper enables Vantage for the workspace.
