Google Ads says your sign-in has no access to the account
On this page
You see one of these when the Google login Tapper uses cannot open a Google Ads account:
- While connecting: "The Google account you signed in with doesn't have access to ... in Google Ads. Reconnect Google Ads with a Google account that does."
- On an account row, with Needs reconnecting: "The connected Google sign-in lost access" and "Reconnect Google Ads with a sign-in that has access to this account."
The fix is the same: sign in with a Google login that has access, or get yours added in Google Ads.
Why it happens
Tapper connects through your own Google sign-in, so that login needs access to the account in Google Ads, directly or through a manager account (MCC). With manager access, Tapper lists the client accounts under it and connects each through the manager; you do not need adding to each one.
Usually you signed in with a different login, or the login's access (or the manager's link to the account) was removed in Google Ads. Tapper sends no access request or manager-link invitation, so there is nothing to approve in Google Ads.
Reconnect with a login that has access
- While connecting, click Reconnect Google Ads on the result screen. On an entity, click Reconnect on the account's row in Setup > Ad accounts > Google Ads (several at once).
- Pick the Google login that has access, directly or through its manager account.
- The account connects, or its row reads Connected.
Get your login added in Google Ads
Someone with Admin access to the account, or to a manager account above it:
- Opens the account in Google Ads, then Admin > Access and security.
- Adds a user with your email address, chooses an access level and sends the invitation.
You accept it from Google's email, then reconnect in Tapper.
Choose a level that can make changes, such as Standard or Admin. Read only is not enough: with Block, connecting writes to the account, and Lift's fixes change it too. See Google's About access levels in your Google Ads account.
Two similar messages
- "Google Ads ... isn't active, so Tapper can't use it. Reactivate it in Google Ads, then connect it again." (on the row: Not active): reactivate the account in Google Ads, then reconnect.
- "Google Ads signed Tapper out of ... Reconnect Google Ads to continue." (on the row: "Google Ads signed Tapper out of this account"): click Reconnect and sign in with a login that has access.
If it still happens
- The account is not in the list after signing in with the right login: see No Google Ads accounts found, or the list did not load.
- The row stays in error after reconnecting: that login still cannot reach the account. Check in Google Ads which logins have access.
- Otherwise, write to support@tapper.ai with the account ID and the exact message.
