Connect LinkedIn Ads for Lift

On this page

Connecting LinkedIn Ads is a LinkedIn sign-in and a tick in a list. Tapper asks for two read permissions, r_ads (your ad accounts) and r_ads_reporting (their reporting), and never writes: no Insight Tag, audience or tracking template.

Before you start

  • You need the Owner or Admin role. Manager and Viewer cannot connect.
  • Sign in with a LinkedIn profile that has any role on the ad account in Campaign Manager, Viewer included.

Steps

  1. From the wizard's Connect an ad account step, or Connect LinkedIn Ads / Add account on the LinkedIn Ads page of Setup > Ad accounts, press Sign in with LinkedIn. Sign in with the profile that manages the account and allow access.
  2. On Choose the accounts to connect, each row shows the name, ID and currency, plus the status (such as Canceled) of an inactive account. Tick each account and press Finish.
  3. When the page reads LinkedIn Ads connected, press Done: to Lift's Recommendations from the wizard, or the LinkedIn Ads page from Add an account.

An account already on another entity in this workspace moves to this one. A grayed-out row shows why it cannot be picked:

Reason under the rowWhat it means
"This is a LinkedIn test account. LinkedIn reports no data for test accounts, so Lift cannot read it."Test accounts cannot be connected.
"This ad account is connected to another Tapper workspace. Contact Tapper support to move it."Tapper support can move it.
"LinkedIn didn't let Tapper read this account. Check your role on it in Campaign Manager, then connect it again."Your profile's role does not reach this account.
"LinkedIn didn't return this account's details. Try again in a minute."Reload the page after a minute.

Tapper stores each account's name, ID, currency and your role, then reads its settings, campaigns, ad sets and ads (How Lift works on LinkedIn Ads). The LinkedIn Ads page shows each account's Account ID and chip.

If something goes wrong

  • Role or sign-in messages, including declining on LinkedIn's screen: Only a workspace owner or admin can connect an account and Connection failed, Sign-in cancelled or Connection status unknown.
  • No ad accounts found: the profile has no role on any ad account. Press Connect a different account.
  • "Your LinkedIn Ads sign-in has ended. Sign in with LinkedIn Ads again.": press Connect again.
  • "LinkedIn is limiting requests right now. Try again in a minute.": wait a minute.
  • "Your LinkedIn sign-in can't reach ad account 123456789. Sign in with the LinkedIn profile that manages it.": use a profile with a role on it.
  • This LinkedIn Ads account is already connected: it is on this entity already.
  • Some accounts did not connect: each shows what to do.

Reconnect or disconnect

On Needs reconnecting, press Reconnect, or tick several and press Reconnect 2 selected; one sign-in covers them all (causes, steps). If the account is no longer on the entity, the tab reads LinkedIn Ads didn't reconnect; add it again with Add account.

To disconnect, contact your Tapper team. Tapper then stops reading the account.
