Meta Ads account could not be connected

On this page

A failed link shows Couldn't connect this Meta Ads account (or the plural) with a reason per account. A connected account can later show Needs reconnecting or Needs attention on the Meta Ads page of Setup > Ad accounts.

With Block, Tapper creates its own audience in each ad account, built from your Meta pixel, and several causes below come from that step. A Lift-only workspace needs no audience and no pixel.

Custom Audience terms not accepted

Ticking an account shows Accept the terms on Meta. Accept them before Continue or Finish.

The Meta account list with one account ticked, the Custom Audience terms note and Accept the terms on Meta

Otherwise the account fails with "Meta's terms for website Custom Audiences have not been accepted for ..., so Tapper cannot create its audience there." In Meta Ads Manager, open Audiences for the ad account, then Create audience > Custom audience > Website, and accept. Then click Retry (or Retry the failed accounts). Repeat for each ad account that fails.

The Couldn't connect this Meta Ads account state with the terms reason and Retry

No Meta pixel

Usually shows as "Tapper couldn't finish connecting this account. Try again; if it fails twice, contact support." Connect a pixel to the ad account in Meta, then click Retry.

Ads management not allowed

The reason ends "Reconnect Meta and allow ads management when Meta asks. If Meta does not ask, first remove Tapper in your Facebook settings under Business integrations, then reconnect Meta." Click Reconnect Meta and allow managing your ads. If Meta does not ask, remove Tapper under Business integrations in your Facebook settings first.

Analyst access only

The reason starts "The Facebook profile you connected Tapper with can only view ... (Analyst access)." and goes on "Tapper creates an audience there, which needs Advertiser or Admin access." In Meta Business settings, open Accounts > Ad accounts, pick the account, open People, and give your profile Manage campaigns (Advertiser) or Manage ad account (Admin), or ask someone who can. Then click Reconnect Meta, or sign in with a profile that has that access.

Closed, disabled or unreachable

While connecting: "Meta reports ... is disabled or closed. Reactivate it in Meta Business settings, then connect it again." Later: Needs attention with "Meta can't reach this ad account". Check in Meta Business settings that the account is active and your profile has access, then connect again, or click Reconnect on the row.

Signed out, or lost access

A row with Needs reconnecting reads "Meta signed Tapper out of this account" or "The connected Facebook profile lost access". Click Reconnect and sign in with a profile that has Advertiser or Admin access (Reconnect an ad account that stopped working).
