Connect LinkedIn Ads for Lift

Connect a LinkedIn Ads account to an entity and Lift reads it. Connecting is a LinkedIn sign-in and a tick in a list. Tapper asks LinkedIn for read permissions only, and connecting creates and changes nothing in your LinkedIn Ads accounts.

Before you start

  • You need the Owner or Admin role in the workspace. Members with the Manager or Viewer role cannot connect accounts.
  • Sign in with a LinkedIn profile that has a role on the ad account in Campaign Manager. Any role works, Viewer included, because Tapper only reads.
  • The LinkedIn Ads row shows on Lift only and Block + Lift workspaces. On both, LinkedIn Ads connects for Lift only: Tapper adds no Insight Tag, audience or tracking template in LinkedIn.

Where to connect

  • During setup. On the setup wizard's Connect an ad account step.
  • On the entity. Open the entity's LinkedIn Ads tab and press Connect LinkedIn Ads (when no LinkedIn account is connected) or Add account. Both open Add an account. See Add another ad account to an entity.

Steps

1. Sign in with LinkedIn

  1. On the LinkedIn Ads row ("Sign in with LinkedIn and pick the LinkedIn Ads accounts to connect."), press Sign in with LinkedIn.
  2. A LinkedIn window opens. Sign in to LinkedIn with the profile that manages the ad account, and allow Tapper access.
  3. The window closes and Tapper lists your LinkedIn Ads accounts. LinkedIn Ads connected above the list confirms the sign-in worked.

2. Choose the accounts

  1. On Choose the accounts to connect ("Select the LinkedIn Ads accounts to connect."), find your accounts, or use Search accounts by name or ID.
  2. Each row shows the account name, then its ID and currency. An account that is not active also shows its LinkedIn status, such as Canceled.
  3. Tick each account Lift should read, then press Finish.

The list shows every ad account your LinkedIn profile has a role on. A row that cannot be picked is grayed out, with the reason under it:

Reason under the rowWhat it means
"This is a LinkedIn test account. LinkedIn reports no data for test accounts, so Lift cannot read it."LinkedIn test accounts cannot be connected.
"This ad account is connected to another Tapper workspace. Contact Tapper support to move it."The account belongs to another workspace. Tapper support can move it.
"LinkedIn didn't let Tapper read this account. Check your role on it in Campaign Manager, then connect it again."Your profile's role does not reach this account.
"LinkedIn didn't return this account's details. Try again in a minute."LinkedIn did not answer for this account. Reload the page after a minute.

The page reads "Linking 2 accounts." (with your own count), then LinkedIn Ads connected, or 2 LinkedIn Ads accounts connected for several, with "Connecting them changes nothing in your LinkedIn Ads accounts." Press Done:

  • In the setup wizard, Done takes you to the Lift page.
  • From Add an account, Done takes you to the entity's LinkedIn Ads tab.

Either way, a message confirms LinkedIn Ads accounts connected.

If the account is already connected to another entity in the same workspace, connecting it here moves it to this entity.

On a Block + Lift workspace, connecting LinkedIn Ads in the setup wizard ends the wizard on the Lift page, and the Block steps (Install website monitoring and Set your detection rules) stay open for later.

What Tapper reads

When you connect, Tapper stores each account's name, ID and currency, and your role on it. Lift then reads the account's settings and its campaigns, ad sets and ads: How Lift works on LinkedIn Ads covers what it reads and what the Lift page shows.

Where you see the account

The entity's LinkedIn Ads tab lists the connected accounts under LinkedIn Ads accounts ("Connected LinkedIn Ads accounts. Tapper reads them and changes nothing in them."). Each row shows the account name, its Account ID and a status chip: Connected, or Needs reconnect when LinkedIn stops accepting Tapper's sign-in.

If something goes wrong

  • "Only a workspace owner or admin can connect an account. Ask one of them to connect it for you.": see Only a workspace owner or admin can connect an account.
  • Connection failed after signing in, including when you decline on LinkedIn's screen: see what each sign-in message means, then press Sign in with LinkedIn again.
  • No ad accounts found: the LinkedIn profile you used has no role on any ad account. Press Connect a different account and sign in with the profile that manages it.
  • "Your LinkedIn Ads sign-in has ended. Sign in with LinkedIn Ads again.": Tapper no longer holds your LinkedIn sign-in. Press Connect again and sign in once more.
  • "LinkedIn is limiting requests right now. Try again in a minute.": wait a minute, then try again.
  • "Your LinkedIn sign-in can't reach ad account 123456789. Sign in with the LinkedIn profile that manages it." (with your own account ID): sign in with a profile that has a role on that account.
  • This LinkedIn Ads account is already connected: it is on this entity already, so there is nothing to add.
  • Some accounts did not connect: the page names each one with what to do next.

Reconnect an account

When an account's chip reads Needs reconnect, the line under it names the cause:

  • "LinkedIn signed Tapper out of this account. Reconnect LinkedIn Ads so Tapper can read it again."
  • "The LinkedIn sign-in for this account has ended. Reconnect LinkedIn Ads so Tapper can read it again."
  • "The connected LinkedIn profile lost access. Reconnect LinkedIn Ads with a profile that has a role on this account."

Press Reconnect on the account, or tick several and press Reconnect 2 selected, and sign in with LinkedIn again. One sign-in reconnects every account you ticked. If the account is no longer on the entity, the tab reads LinkedIn Ads didn't reconnect ("Tapper couldn't find that account on this entity, so nothing was reconnected. If it was disconnected, add it again with Add account."). See Reconnect an ad account that stopped working.

Disconnect an account

Tapper disconnects ad accounts for you: contact your Tapper team. Once disconnected, Tapper stops reading the account. See Disconnect an ad account.
