Connect Apple Ads for Lift

Lift reads App Store ad accounts in Apple Ads, on Lift only and Block + Lift workspaces alike. Apple Ads has no sign-in to hand over. Instead, an admin of your Apple Ads organization invites Tapper with a read-only role, Tapper's team links that organization to your workspace, and its App Store ad accounts connect to your entity. The connection is read only: connecting changes nothing in Apple Ads, and Tapper only reads the account from then on.

Before you start

  • In Tapper, you need the Owner or Admin role.
  • In Apple Ads, you need an account admin of the organization: they send the invitation.
  • Lift must be on for the workspace. The Apple Ads row shows on every workspace with Lift.

Where to connect

  • During setup. The setup wizard's Connect an ad account step has an Apple Ads row.
  • On the entity. The Add an account page has the same row: see Add another ad account to an entity.

Steps

1. Invite Tapper in Apple Ads

Until your organization is linked, the Apple Ads row reads "Apple Ads has no sign-in: you invite Tapper to your Apple Ads organisation instead." and lists the steps. In Apple Ads, an account admin of your organization:

  1. Opens Account Settings > User Management and chooses Invite Users.
  2. Enters a first and last name, support@tapper.ai as the Apple Account, and the role API Account Read Only.
  3. Presses Send Invite.

2. Tell Tapper you sent the invitation

Back on the Apple Ads row in Tapper:

  1. Optionally, type your organization's name in Apple organisation name (optional), so Tapper's team can match your invitation.
  2. Press Done, I've invited you.

The row then shows when you asked, for example "Asked Oct 19, 10:30 GMT+3. Tapper links it, usually the same day.", with "Apple organisation:" and the name you gave under it. Tapper's team gets your request at once.

Tapper's team accepts the invitation and links your Apple Ads organization to your workspace. Its App Store ad accounts then connect to your entity on their own. If your workspace has several entities, tell your Tapper contact which entity they belong to, or connect them yourself as in step 4.

Once the link is in place, the row reads "Connect App Store ad accounts from the Apple Ads organisations your Tapper team linked to this workspace." It lists each connected account with its ID, organization, currency and time zone, marked Connected on this entity or Connected to another entity.

4. Connect accounts yourself

  1. On the Apple Ads row, press Connect Apple Ads.
  2. The Connect Apple Ads window reads "Pick the App Store ad accounts Lift should work on. Only the Apple Ads organisations your Tapper team links to this workspace show here." Tick each account Lift should read. An account already on this entity shows ticked, with Connected; one on another entity shows Connected to another entity and cannot be ticked.
  3. Press Connect (Connect 3 accounts with your own count, when you tick several). You can tick up to 50 accounts at a time.
  4. The window reads "Connected 2 Apple Ads accounts." (with your own count). Press Done.

Under the list, the window reads "Connecting changes nothing in Apple Ads."

Where Done takes you:

Where you startedWhere you land
Setup wizard, Lift only workspaceThe Lift page, with the message Apple Ads accounts connected
Setup wizard, Block + Lift workspaceThe same step, with Apple Ads accounts connected and a prompt to connect an ad platform to protect
Add an accountThe entity's page

What happens next

Tapper starts reading each account as soon as it connects: its last 30 days first, then its older history. From then on it reads the account every day. The Lift page gets an Apple Ads tab, which reads "We're reading your Apple Ads account. First findings after 7 days of data." while the account has no card. How Lift works on Apple Ads explains what Lift reads and what the page shows.

If something goes wrong

In the Connect Apple Ads window

  • Some accounts may be missing, with "Apple Ads could not be read for every linked organisation just now, so this list may be short. This is on Tapper's side; try again later.": close the window and try again later.
  • "The linked Apple Ads organisation has no App Store ad accounts.": the organization Tapper's team linked has only Apple Maps accounts, or none. Check with your Apple Ads admin which organization holds your App Store accounts.
  • "Nothing was connected. Try again.": the request failed as a whole. Press Connect again.

When some accounts do not connect, the window reads, for example, "Connected 1 Apple Ads account. 2 could not be connected." (or "The account could not be connected." for a single account) and names each account with its reason. Press Back to the list to try again, or Close.

"Tapper's Apple Account has not been invited to this account."Tapper's user cannot open this account in Apple Ads. Ask your Apple Ads admin to invite support@tapper.ai with access to it.

"This Apple Ads account is not available to this workspace. Check it belongs to the Apple organisation Tapper's team linked here."The account belongs to an organization that is not linked to this workspace. Ask your Tapper contact to link that organization.

"Tapper couldn't read Apple Ads just now. Try again later; Tapper's team has been told."Apple could not be read. Try again later.
"Tapper couldn't finish connecting Apple Ads account" followed by its IDTry again. If it fails twice, contact support.

Tapper's access was removed in Apple Ads

If someone removes Tapper's user from your Apple Ads organization, Tapper stops reading its accounts after its next daily access check. Invite support@tapper.ai again with the API Account Read Only role, and Tapper reads the accounts again once Apple lists them for Tapper.
