Protect Meta ad sets: Protect all or one at a time

Tapper Block protects Meta ads one ad set at a time. Each ad set has a Protection switch on the entity's Meta protection tab: switch it on and Tapper adds its invalid traffic audience to that ad set as an exclusion, switch it off and Tapper removes it. You can also protect every ad set in a list at once. Connecting a Meta account does not switch any ad set on, so this is the step that starts protection on Meta.

Before you start

  • A Block + Lift workspace with a Meta ad account connected to the entity. See Connect Meta Ads.
  • The Owner or Admin role. Editor members can see the list but cannot change it.
  • The account card on the Overview sub-tab shows Connected. If it shows Needs reconnect or Needs attention, reconnect it first: see Reconnect an ad account that stopped working.

Open Manage ad sets

  1. In the sidebar, open Protected Entities and click the entity.
  2. In the left rail, under Ad platforms, click Meta protection. The tab opens on the Overview sub-tab.
  3. Click the Manage ad sets sub-tab, or click Manage ad sets on an account card to open the list for that account.

Each row shows:

ColumnWhat it shows
Ad accountThe Meta ad account the ad set belongs to
Ad setThe ad set's name and ID
CampaignThe campaign the ad set belongs to, with its ID
ProtectionThe switch: on means the ad set excludes Tapper's audience

Use the search box (Search ad sets or campaigns) and the ad account filter above the table to narrow the list. The buttons at the top act on everything that matches the current search and filter, not only the page you are looking at.

Protect one ad set

  1. Find the ad set in the list.
  2. Turn on its Protection switch.

The switch saves as soon as you click it. Turn it off to remove the exclusion from that ad set.

Protect every ad set at once

  1. If you only want some ad sets, narrow the list with the search box or the ad account filter first.
  2. Click Protect all. Tapper queues every ad set that matches the current filter. Tapper applies the change in the background, so refresh the page after a moment to see the switches on.

Protect all shows while none of the ad sets on the page you are viewing is protected. Once at least one is, the same button reads Disable protection and switches off every ad set that matches the current filter. To protect the rest of a list where some ad sets are already on, switch the others on one at a time.

Keep the list up to date

  • Refresh ad sets asks Tapper to read your campaigns and ad sets from Meta again now. Tapper also reads them when you connect the account and then every 6 hours, so an ad set you created in Meta a moment ago may be missing until you refresh. After a refresh, check new ad sets and switch on the ones you want protected.
  • Export downloads every ad set that matches the current search and filter as a CSV file, with the ad account, campaign and ad set names and IDs and the Protection state. It is a quick way to keep a record of what is protected.

What the switch changes in Meta

Switching an ad set on adds Tapper - Invalid Traffic Audience to it as an excluded audience; in Ads Manager, edit the ad set and you see it under Audience controls. Switching it off removes the exclusion. How the audience fills, and what it means for your results, is in How Block protects Meta ads.

On a Lift only workspace

The Meta protection tab is connect-only. You still see the account cards and the list of ad sets, but there is no Protection column, no Protect all or Disable protection, and no Invalid Traffic Audience card, because Lift only creates no audience in your ad account. See Lift only: what your workspace includes and leaves out.

If something goes wrong

  • "No ad sets found." Clear the search or pick another ad account. Ad sets created in Meta after the last sync appear after Refresh ad sets.
  • The switch fails with a message about the account. Tapper cannot change ad sets in an account it has lost access to. Check the account card on the Overview sub-tab and reconnect Meta if it shows Needs reconnect or Needs attention; see Ad account status: Connected, Needs reconnect, Not active, Needs attention.
  • "Audience exclusion can't be created for this ad set." Meta did not accept the change. Check that the ad set still exists in Ads Manager, click Refresh ad sets and try again. If it keeps failing, email support@tapper.ai with the entity name and the ad set ID.
