Aborted ad click prevention
On this page
Aborted ad click prevention flags IP addresses whose Google Ads clicks keep ending without the page loading. An aborted ad click is one Tapper registers where your page does not fully load and no activity (scrolls, clicks) is recorded.
Why it matters
Aborted clicks come from bots that trigger the click without engaging, or technical issues: a slow website, a script error or a poor connection on the visitor's side. Left alone, they waste spend and distort campaign performance.
How it works
- Detection. Tapper flags an ad click when the monitoring script does not load and no events occur.
- The check. Tapper looks at the Google Ads clicks it recorded from one IP address on that protected entity over the last 30 days. When the IP has enough clicks to judge and most of them never loaded your page, the IP is flagged. The check is the same for every account: it is not a limit you set, and it skips mobile carrier addresses.
- Result. An IP flagged this way gets the block reason Aborted ad click. With blocking on, Tapper excludes it like any invalid IP; in Monitor-only, it records the flag only.
The Aborted ad clicks list on the Click limits tab of a rule set does not decide this flag, so editing it does not change which IPs are flagged.
Check your flagged IPs
Open the Clicks page and filter Block reason on Aborted ad click. If the rows look like real customers, check that the monitoring script is on every landing page and allowed by your Content-Security-Policy.
The full rule: Aborted ad clicks: block IPs whose clicks never load your page.
