Everything about Tapper's Meta Ads protection

On this page

Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) target lower-intent users through interests and segments and charge per 1,000 impressions, unlike Google Ads' keyword targeting and price per click. Competitor clicking matters less on Meta; protection keeps bots and click farms from draining your budget and polluting your audiences.

How Tapper protects Meta Ads

When someone clicks your Meta ad and lands on your website, Tapper judges the visitor with your detection rules and many data points. An invalid visitor joins the custom audience "Tapper - Invalid Traffic Audience", which is excluded from your ad sets so they stop seeing your ads.

Switch protection on per ad set: on the Meta Ads page of Setup > Ad accounts, open Ad sets and switch Protection on, or click Protect all. Connecting switches none on. Each ad also needs the ad_id URL parameter: see Add the ad_id parameter to your Meta ads.

An exclusion audience changes an ad set's targeting, so Meta may review the ad, usually within 24 hours. Once live, the audience updates on its own, so your ad sets should not re-enter the learning phase or review. See Meta ads and the learning phase and Meta's Help Center.

What is protected

Tapper needs a click that lands on your website, so it protects only ads that lead to external sites. Accounts running only ads that keep people on Meta, such as video ads, lead form ads or impression campaigns, are not protected. In a mixed account, Tapper detects clicks on the external-site ads, and you can add the exclusion audience yourself to the other ad sets.

Requirements

  • Tapper's monitoring script on your site.
  • A Meta pixel on the ad account.
  • Advertiser or Admin access to the ad account.
  • Acceptance of Meta's Custom Audience terms.
