Device blocking

Sophisticated bots and click farms often change their IP address, so each visit looks like a different user. Google does not allow blocking a device directly, so Tapper identifies devices by a device ID instead.

Each time a device (a computer, smartphone or tablet) reaches your landing page through paid ads, Tapper gives it a device ID. It does not depend on cookies, so clearing browser data does not remove it. Using that ID, Tapper sees every new IP address the same device uses. When Tapper detects invalid traffic from a device, it blocks every IP address that device has used.

Turn it on

  1. In the sidebar, under Setup, click Rule sets and pick the rule set.
  2. Open the Detection features tab and switch on Block repeat clicks from one device. It is on by default in a new rule set.

Device blocking needs Tapper's monitoring script on your landing pages. See also Device blocking: catch repeat offenders who change IP.
